How to choose the right recessed LED spotlight?
Recessed LED spotlights are widely used in residential lighting and commercial lighting. They are suitable for basic lighting, focal lighting, wall washing, and painting.

So, how to choose a suitable spotlight? Below, I will share the basic strategy for choosing LED spotlights.

1. Light source

When choosing a spotlight, you need to see whether it is marked as a full-spectrum light source. Full-spectrum light sources are those that closely mimic sunlight, providing a more comprehensive and natural lighting experience. The overall color distribution of the spectrum is relatively uniform, especially the blue light value should be low, because blue light is a harmful light source and is not friendly to the eyes.

This involves choosing RG0-free blue light-free lamps. Such spotlights show low blue light characteristics in the spectrum.

Full-spectrum light sources usually have a higher color rendering index and can more realistically restore the color of the object itself. Taking the color rendering index (Ra) of sunlight as 100 as the standard, the closer to this value, the better. High-quality brand lamps can already achieve a color rendering index (Ra) of over 97.

2. Flicker-free

Long-term exposure to a flickering environment can easily lead to visual fatigue and optic nerve damage. Flicker is a byproduct of LED lighting systems. It is mainly caused by the fact that when the driving power supply is connected to AC power and converted to DC power, low-frequency ripples are generated that cannot be completely filtered. These ripples cause fluctuations in the DC current, which in turn affect the brightness and result in flickering. In reality, to test flicker, you can directly use the screen recording mode of your mobile phone, aim at the light source, and see if there is flickering on the screen.

3. Anti-glare

Glare generally refers to dazzling light. To make our eyes more comfortable, when choosing spotlights, pay attention to the glare value (UGR). The smaller the UGR, the softer the light. At least choose a lamp with UGR < 16. At present, the UGR of good brand spotlights can even reach UGR < 13.

Common specific anti-glare methods for lamps:

(1) Deep cup anti-glare: This specifically refers to the distance from the light source to the light port. The larger the distance, the deeper the light source is hidden, and the less likely it is to produce glare.

(2) Honeycomb mesh anti-glare: Adding honeycomb mesh to spotlights is also an effective method for reducing glare. The main principle is to change the light from direct light to indirect light, so that the residual light is reflected through the side of the honeycomb mesh to avoid stray light from reflecting from all directions.

(3) Black cup anti-glare: The black cup has a better anti-glare effect than the white cup. The black cup refers to a black reflective cup that reduces the reflection of light through the reflective surface and absorbs part of the reflected light, thereby achieving a more ideal anti-glare effect.

(4) Optical lens: LED Spot fixtures also commonly use optical lenses to prevent glare. The principle is to change the direction and intensity of light propagation through the design of the lens, thereby reducing glare.

Currently, to achieve a better anti-glare effect, manufacturers employ double or triple anti-glare designs, which enhance the anti-glare quality of the light source.

4. Light effect

The light emitted by a good spotlight must have clear and smooth edges without secondary light spots. This kind of light is beautiful, especially for wall washing and painting; the light effect is very suitable.

It should be noted here that the distance between the spotlight and the wall is generally about 15-30cm. The light effect of the spotlight within this range is the best, which can ensure uniform light distribution.

5. Material

The material of the spotlight can directly affect the service life of the lamp. Choose materials with good heat dissipation and corrosion resistance. The most popular material on the market is aviation aluminum, which ensures the lamp works stably for a long time.

Refuse to use lightweight materials, such as plastic, which have poor heat dissipation properties. If used for an extended period, it will affect the rated life of the lamp.

6. Chip and driver

The chip and driver are the core components of the lamp, and also determine the quality and life. Try to choose big brands for more reliability.

Our company will choose to use original American Cree chips or Philips chips, selecting those with quality assurance, stable quality, durability, and uniform light output.

Additionally, the spotlight driver is currently preferred over Eaglerise, Lifud, Philips, and Kegu. Good drivers can fully utilize the lamp’s capabilities.

You can completely choose the right spotlight according to the above points. If you are still very entangled, you can also choose our company’s LED spotlights; all our products meet the highest standards.
